The tennis
and softball teams from Xavier Prep began the 2019 season on a strong note on
Tuesday (Feb. 26).
The tennis
team swept host Gilbert Highland 9-0 (results below).
The softball
team, led by new coach Brad Downes, rolled to a 10-1 win over host Surprise
Valley Vista.
Xavier
scored four runs in the first inning and went on to collect 15 hits for the
game. The Gators also got help from four Valley Vista errors, and XCP pitchers
gave up just four hits.
The tennis
team was due to play its home opener on Wednesday (Feb. 27) against Tempe
Corona del Sol at 3:30 p.m., and softball will have its home opener on Thursday
(Feb. 28) against Glendale Mountain Ridge at 3:45.
