Xavier wins as Bridget Donahey hits 3 HRs

Call her Bridget the Basher.

Because freshman infielder Bridget Donahey bashed three home runs and a double and drove in seven runs as Xavier Prep’s softball team routed visiting Phoenix Maryvale, 16-0, on Thursday (March 7). The game only lasted five innings due to a 10-run rule.

Xavier is now 4-1 and has scored 10 or more runs in every game.

The Gators also got a pair of hits and two RBI from freshman pitcher Riley Flynn and two hits from freshman infielder Megan Schouten, including a triple.

Flynn was virtually untouchable again in the pitching circle, giving up just one hit and striking out 11 for her third straight shutout.

Xavier will not play next week, but will have four straight games the following week – March 19 against Mesa Mountain View at Xavier, March 20 at Chandler Hamilton, March 21 against Hamilton at Xavier and March 22 at Phoenix Desert Vista in Ahwatukee.
