Shields, Pierson are finalists for AIA awards

Two Xavier Prep seniors have been chosen as finalists for two Arizona Interscholastic Association awards.

The first is the AIA Scholar Activity Award and the Xavier finalist is Renee Pierson of the spirit line.

The other award is the AIA Scholar Athlete Award and the Xavier finalist is Shannon Shields, who played indoor volleyball in the fall and who currently plays beach volleyball.

Each high school in Arizona can nominate one female and one male student for each award, and all-female Xavier has a finalist in each category, vry unusual for such prestigious awards.

The award winners will be announced at the AIA Awards Luncheon on May 17 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals
