DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for AIA365.com, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Softball rallies for win over Basha

Xavier Prep’s softball team took an early 4-0 lead against visiting Chandler Basha and fell behind 5-4 before rallying for four runs in the sixth inning for an 8-5 victory on Tuesday (April 2).

Xavier is now 11-2, Basha 8-12, with the teams meeting again on Thursday (April 3) at Basha.

Third baseman Jazmin Andrade had three hits and four RBIs for the Gators, and Bridget Donahey connected for a two-run home run.

Earning the win was pitcher Riley Flynn, who gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out four.
