XCP softball gives that something extra again

Thursday night’s (April 11) softball game between Xavier Prep and Chandler High was such a good one, lasting nine innings, the teams must have figured they would play more extra innings  on Friday (April 12).

The result was the same, as Xavier won its second straight with a 6-4 triumph in eight innings, leaving the Gators with a 15-3 record at the end of the regular season.

The Gators should be able to get a bit of rest during Spring Break next week, then begin practice in preparation for their first-round 6A Conference state tournament game on April 30. Xavier is expected to have a home game in the first round and possibly the second.

Xavier continues to hit the ball with authority. The team put 14 hits on the board in Friday’s win, with freshman infielder Meghan Schouten and sophomore catcher Macy Lee hitting home runs.

Sisters Katie and Bridget Donahey combined for eight of Xavier’s hits. Katie Donahey’s effort included a double.

The eighth inning was set up by two Xavier runs in the top of the seventh and a run by Chandler in the bottom of the seventh to tie it.

Freshman Riley Flynn pitched the win for Xavier. She pitched all 17 innings for the Gators in the two games against Chandler.
