Donahey is freshman softball All-American

During her freshman season in the spring of 2019, Xavier Prep shortstop Bridget Donahey displayed numerous skills that led many across Arizona and now nationally to take notice.

She recently was named to the MaxPreps Freshman All-American Team as an infielder. It was quite an honor, since only 33 girls from across the country were so chosen.

Donahey hit .581 and had 13 multiple-hit games to help the Gators reach the 6A Conference state tournament with a 17-5 record. She hit 13 home runs and 13 doubles, had 43 hits overall, scored 34 runs and drove in 36 runs.

Gators' Menne qualifies for U.S. Junior Am golf

Three-time Arizona high school golf champion Ashley Menne of Xavier Prep also hopes to shine in the national spotlight in the coming weeks.

Menne, who will be a senior in the 2019-20 school year and has committed to play collegiately at Arizona State, qualified for the 71st U.S. Girls Junior Amateur tournament with a 4-under-par 68 in the Arizona qualifier at the Alta Mesa golf course in Mesa on June 26.

The U.S. Junior Amateur will be held July 22-27 in Stevens Point, Wis.

Scottsdale Chaparral’s Grace Summerhays, who finished as runner-up to Menne in last fall’s Division I state tournament in Tucson, also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur with a second-place finish in the Utah qualifier on July 2.
