DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for AIA365.com, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Badminton can't shake rust on the road

The first Division I badminton power points rankings were released by the Arizona Interscholastic Association on Tuesday (Sept. 24), but No. 7 Xavier Prep struggled on the road against No. 15 Mesa Mountain View and fell 7-2.

Both teams are now 4-4.

Xavier had one singles winner (junior Lina Vanderwey) and one doubles winner (Mayse Dunn and Mia Velasco).

Xavier will return to action next Tuesday (Oct. 1) with a home match against Mesa Red Mountain.
