Xavier Prep
has long been a force on the national indoor volleyball scene. Now the Gators’
wealth of talent has extended to beach volleyball.
That
accomplishment comes with the announcement of recently graduated Trinity
Cavanaugh being named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association
All-American Second Team. Cavanaugh was joined on the Second Team by another
Arizona player, Alexandra Parkhurst of Tucson Salpointe Catholic.
The AVCA
picked two All-American teams of eight players each.
Cavanaugh
teamed with fellow senior Shannon Shields, now at the University of Louisville,
to put the Gators over the top in the final pairing of the night in the Division
I championship match against Gilbert Perry. Xavier won the contest 3-2 to claim
its seventh title in the eight seasons of the sport in Arizona.
Now studying
and playing beach volleyball at Texas Christian University, Cavanaugh played for the RPM Sand club
team in the Valley.
She also
took 17th place in the AAU National Junior Beach Championships (122
teams) and finished fifth in the AVP First National Championships.
