Frosh tennis teams go 1-1 in season openers

Xavier Prep’s freshman “A” and “B” tennis team opened their seasons on Wednesday (Sept. 18).

The A team fell 6-3 to visiting Queen Creek Casteel at XCP’s Stark Tennis Center. The B team traveled to face Phoenix Mountain Pointe in Ahwatukee and came away with a 9-0 win.

The A team had three singles winners: Olivia Taylor, Reese Brown and Anna Pisoni.

The B team had four singles winners: Maria Wolowiecki, Morgan Finch, Ella Bratti and Jessyla Garcia. And Xavier got two singles wins by default. In doubles, Xavier’s Morgan Ulrich and Sofia Purcell and Ava Ryan and Tiffany Wedell scored victories, along with one win by default.

The A team returns to action again on Thursday (Sept. 19) at Stark with a 3:30 p.m. match against visiting Tempe Corona del Sol. The B team will play Mountain Pointe again on Tuesday (Sept. 24) at Stark, but with different players from the Gators’ vast roster.
