Xavier Prep
sophomore Ivy Song seems to be getting better and better on the golf course.
She shot a
5-under-par 31 on Tuesday (Sept. 10) to take medalist honors and help the
Gators defeat Tempe Corona del Sol and Mesa Desert Ridge in a three-way match
at Phoenix Country Club. It was the second medalist effort for Song this season.
Xavier
senior Ashley Menne and junior Mary Beth Doss finished in a tie for the No. 2
spot at 3-under 33.
“I know Ivy
is very excited about the way she is playing and so are we (coaches and
teammates),’’ said Xavier co-coach Tui Selvaratnam. “All the hard work she put
in over the summer is paying off. All of the girls worked hard.’’
A light
breeze and puffy cotton-ball clouds greeted the golfers as tee time approached.
“It was nice
and cool with the 90s (temperature), at least compared to 115 or something like
that,’’ Selvaratnam said.
Other Xavier
finishers: senior Breyana Matthews, tie for 4th, 1-over 37; freshman Annie
Dawson, 6th, 2-over 38; senior Sydney Trout, tie for 8th,
6-over 42; sophomore Kate Ryan, 12th, 7-over 43; sophomore Ava
Mayberger, tie for 13th, 9-over 45; senior Danae Bravo, tie for 13th,
9-over 45; senior Sissi Wang, 15th, 10-over 46; sophomore Audrey
Sanchez, 16th, 12-over 48; and freshman Sophie Stamatis, tie for 17th,
17-over 53.
The Gators
have had a heavy early season schedule but now get a 10-day break. They will
resume play on Sept. 20-21 in the annual Aguila Invitational at the Aguila Golf
Course in Laveen.
