Xavier Prep’s volleyball team took one step forward on Wednesday night (Oct. 14), but turned around just one night later and took one step back on Thursday night (Oct 15).
With the 3-0
sweep by Chandler on Thursday night, the Gators find themselves in a precarious
position, as they play a home match against top-ranked Gilbert Perry on Tuesday
night (Oct. 20), followed by road matches against Phoenix Desert Vista on
Wednesday night (Oct. 21) and Phoenix Sunnyslope on Thursday night (Oct. 22).
Quality opponents all.
Xavier,
which defeated Chandler 3-1 at Xavier on Sept. 24, made a tough run against the
Wolves in Game 1 on Thursday night before falling 25-21. Things began to slip
away in Game 2 with a 25-18 loss, and Chandler applied the finishing touches in
Game 3 with a 25-16 win.
The Gators
were deficient with their service (only one ace) and blocks (five, three by
senior Phoebe Lewis). Senior libero Kaori Robertson led the defense with 17
digs, and junior Bella Sinacori had eight kills.
