It’s safe to say that Xavier Prep’s basketball team would not have reached the 6A Conference semifinal round in 2021 without the all-around ability displayed by two of its top young players, sophomore Mia Davis and freshman Sarah Miller.
Xavier
finished among the top four teams in the state for the third time in the last
five years, posting a 13-4 overall record as the No. 3 seed in the state
tournament. Xavier fell in the semis, 54-46 to eventual champion Surprise
Valley Vista.
On Monday
(April 19), Davis, a 6-foot-1 guard-forward, and Miller, a 5-10 strong forward,
were recognized as Honorable Mention selections as the azcentral.com Web site announced its annual All-Arizona teams.
Miller
played in all 17 of the Gators’ games, leading the team with a 13.5 scoring
average. She also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals, shot 51 percent from
the floor and 72 percent from the free-throw line.
Davis played
in 15 games, averaging 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists. 2.8 steals and
1.1 block. She connected on 14 3-point attempts and shot 80 percent from the
free-throw line.
