He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Home runs, fresh pitching lift XCP softball

 Xavier Prep’s softball team won for the ninth time in 10 attempts on Tuesday (April 20), rolling to an 11-2 victory over host Chandler High.

The Gators got a strong combined pitching effort from junior Emma Petersen and sophomore Zoe Zowine, Petersen pitched six innings, giving up nine hits, both runs and striking out four. Zowine worked a hitless seventh with one strikeout.

Juniors Bridget Donahey and Meghan Schouten connected for home runs. Sophomore Izzy Hycnar drove in three runs and stole a pair of bases.

Xavier returns to action on Wednesday (April 21) with a home game against Gilbert Perry. First pitch is at 3:45 p.m.
