Xavier Prep’s softball team is entering the final stretch of the 2021 regular season.
The Gators
rebounded from their second loss of the season to Chandler Hamilton on
Wednesday (April 27) with a 17-0 road victory in five innings over Mesa
Westwood on Thursday (April 28).
Xavier
(12-2) got a solid pitching effort from sophomore Zoe Zowine, who gave up two
hits, walked five and struck out 11.
The Gators
also got home runs from freshman Sofia Zielinski and junior Bridget Donahey and
three RBIs from senior Jazmin Andrade. And XCP also got help from the Westwood
defense, which committed nine errors
Xavier,
still No. 1 in the most recent release of the Arizona Interscholastic
Association’s power points list, was due to face Phoenix Mountain Pointe on
Friday (April 30), but that contest was canceled.
That leaves
three games in three consecutive days next week to finish out the regular
season. Two are on the road and one will be at home.
The first
game comes on Monday (May 3) at Mesa Red Mountain, with a 6:30 p.m. start. That
will be followed by another night game on Tuesday (May 4), the Gators’ final
home game against Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor at 6:30. And the finale on Wednesday (May 5) will be an afternoon contest (3:45) at Phoenix Pinnacle.
