Thanks to a seven-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth inning, Xavier Prep’s softball team was able to remain in front of visiting Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor and went on to finish off the Eagles for a 10-7 victory on Tuesday night (May 4).
The Gators’
final home game of the regular season at Petznick Field also was Senior Night,
in which Jazmin Andrade, Sydney Johnson and Macy Lee were honored.
Andrade led
the way on offense with three hits and four RBIs, including a double. Johnson
had three hits and Lee had a hit and drove in a run.
Junior
pitcher Riley Flynn picked up the win, giving up six hits (three home runs) and
four walks with seven strikeouts.
Xavier
(13-2) will play its final game of the regular season on Wednesday (May 5), a
road encounter with Phoenix Pinnacle (15-4). First pitch is at 3:45 p.m.
On Thursday
(May 6), the Arizona Interscholastic Association is due to release its final
power rankings for the 6A Conference as well as the brackets for the state
tournament, which is set to begin on Saturday morning (May 8) at the sites of
the highest seeds.
That means
Xavier will host a game at 10 a.m. The Gators have been the top-ranked team for
most of the later weeks of the season.
