Hamilton says goodbye to Gator tennis

The Xavier Prep tennis team’s season reached its conclusion on Friday (May 7) with a 5-0 setback to Chandler Hamilton in a Division I semifinal match at Gene Autry Park in Mesa.

Xavier, the No. 3 seed, finished with a 14-3 record, which included two losses to second-seeded Hamilton and one to top-seeded Scottsdale Desert Mountain.

Desert Mountain and Hamilton played for the team title on Saturday (May 8) at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, with Desert Mountain finishing as champion with a 5-2 win.

Coach Laurie Martin and her Xavier assistants spliced together a team that competed well despite quite a bit of youth during the season and periodic injuries.

Xavier had one senior, four juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.
