The Xavier Prep tennis team’s season reached its conclusion on Friday (May 7) with a 5-0 setback to Chandler Hamilton in a Division I semifinal match at Gene Autry Park in Mesa.
Xavier, the
No. 3 seed, finished with a 14-3 record, which included two losses to
second-seeded Hamilton and one to top-seeded Scottsdale Desert Mountain.
Desert
Mountain and Hamilton played for the team title on Saturday (May 8) at the
Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, with Desert Mountain finishing as champion
with a 5-2 win.
Coach Laurie
Martin and her Xavier assistants spliced together a team that competed well
despite quite a bit of youth during the season and periodic injuries.
Xavier had
one senior, four juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.
