Saga in sand continues for Xavier duos

Make sure you have your flip-flops handy because the beach volleyball season isn’t over just quite yet.

Xavier Prep’s Division I team state champions will have two team duos competing in the beach volleyball pairs competition, a playoff of sorts, on Wednesday (May 19) and Thursday (May 20) at Casteel High in Queen Creek (Power and Riggs roads).

The first XCP pair is seeded No. 2 in this event – senior Serena Turner and sophomore Summer McCann.

They will open play on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against unseeded Madison Carrington and Macey Camacho of Chandler Basha. The winner would play again in a quarterfinal match at 6:15 against either seventh-seeded Bianca Perez and Jocelyn Chavez Rivas of Goodyear Millennium or Tempe Corona del Sol’s unseeded Dominique Wofford and Taylor Erickson.

The second Xavier duo is unseeded Lexi Yoza and Landree Coats, both juniors. In their first match of the day, they will face the fifth-seeded pair of Rylee Achtzehn and Alexis Peck of Scottsdale Desert Mountain.

The winner would go on to a quarterfinal at 6:15 against the winner of a first-round match between fourth-seeded Jordan Suan and Avery Burks of Gilbert Perry and unseeded Reece Fischbeck and Lexi Williams of Mesa Mountain View.

Semifinals and finals are Thursday at the times listed above.
