Xavier pitcher Flynn a candidate for softball POY

Xavier Prep has a softball player on the Player of the Year candidates list by The Arizona Republic with its All-Arizona Team.

It is junior pitcher Riley Flynn, who posted a 16-2 record for the Gators, including a 10-0 shutout in five innings (10-run rule) over Mesa Red Mountain for Xavier’s first-ever 6A state championship.

Flynn had a 1.62 earned-run average and 178 strikeouts.

Xavier also had two Honorable Mention selections – senior catcher Macy Lee and junior shortstop Bridget Donahey.

Players and coaches from softball and all other sports will be honored at The Arizona Republic azcentral .com High School Sports Awards ceremony on July 15.
