Decisive win sets up XCP golf for weekend event

Another team score in red, signifying an under-par finish, allowed Xavier Prep’s golf team to pick up a decisive victory over Phoenix Horizon on Wednesday (Aug. 25) at Phoenix Country Club in the Gators’ second match of the regular season.

Xavier’s 1-under team total of 143 far outdistanced Horizon’s 199.

Junior Annie Dawson’s 1-under 35 was the top score among the five team contributors. Sophomore Kalyn Doss also shot 35.

Sophomores Jayden Jevnick and Kate Hauptman and senior Ivy Song all were at even-par 36. Sophomore Lena Durette, who shot a 33 in a win over Scottsdale Desert Mountain to open the season on Tuesday (Aug. 24), came in with a 1-over-par 37.

The Gators will be back on the course this weekend (Friday-Saturday) with the Cactus Shadows Invitational tournament at the Papago Golf Course on the Phoenix-Tempe border.
