Golfers remain within striking distance in 3rd spot

 Xavier Prep was the top team from Arizona after Friday’s (Sept. 3) first round of the Brophy Rodeo Presented By Ping, and the third team overall at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park.

Fifteen teams will go through the pressurized final-round gauntlet on Saturday (Sept. 4). Most golfers will tee off by mid-morning. Brophy Prep sits in second place on the boys’ side.

Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas was the girls’ leader, with an 8-over-par 88, with Troy High of Fullerton, Calif., in second with a 15-over 295. Xavier is in third, with a 16-over 296.

The other Arizona teams are Cave Creek Cactus Shadows (fourth), Peoria Liberty (sixth), Queen Creek Casteel (seventh), Phoenix Pinnacle (eighth), Gilbert Highland (10th), Anthem Boulder Creek (11th), Goodyear Millennium (12th), Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep (13th), Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor (14th), and Queen Creek (15th).

Xavier’s first-round individual scores that counted towards the team total were sophomore Kate Hauptman (1-over 71), junior Annie Dawson (3-over 73), senior Ivy Song (4-over 74) and sophomore Kalyn Doss (8-over 78).

Additional XCP scores were sophomore Kyla Layman (6-over 76), sophomore Lauren Campbell (15-over 85) and senior Kate Ryan (19-over 89).
