After a tough stretch of schedule had Xavier Prep’s volleyball team struggling against Gilbert Perry and Chandler Hamilton this week, the Gators rebounded a bit on Friday (Oct. 1) in their first pool game of the Nike Tournament of Champions in the southeast Valley.
The Gators
fell 3-1 at home to Perry on Tuesday night (Sept. 28) and were swept 3-0 by
defending champion host Hamilton on Thursday night (Sept. 30).
Scores of
the Hamilton match were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13.
In the first
game of the 32-team TOC on Friday, at least, the Gators were under control in
the Pool G opener, scoring a 2-0 sweep of South Anchorage, Ak. Xavier had two
more pool matches on Friday, against Los Alamitos, Calif., and Archbishop Mitty
of San Jose, Calif.
Depending on
what were to happen the rest of the day, Xavier would move on to either the
Gold Bracket or Platinum Bracket on Saturday (Oct. 2). Most of the Saturday
matches will be played at the Kroc Center in south-central Phoenix at Broadway
and 13th Street.
Xavier will return
home to the Activity Center on Wednesday (Oct. 6) against Phoenix Sunnyslope.
