Phoenix Sunnyslope wanted to make sure it remained in second place, just behind No. 1 Gilbert Perry, in the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s Division I badminton rankings, so it wasted no time in turning away visiting Xavier Prep 9-0 on Wednesday (Oct. 6).
Sunnyslope
was 13-1 on the season, while No. 14 Xavier was at 7-7-1 entering Thursday’s
(Oct. 7) play. Xavier was due to face No. 15 Peoria Liberty at Liberty.
Xavier will
have three matches next week to wrap up the regular season – Oct. 12 vs. Tempe Corona
del Sol at XCP, Oct. 13 vs. Chandler Basha at XCP, and Oct. 14 at Chandler
High.
The
individual singles and doubles portion of the state tournament will begin Oct.
22 at Glendale Independence. The team portion of the tournament will begin Oct.
25 at the sites of the highest seeds.
