Xavier Prep’s golfers are ready to go for the Division I state tournament, where the Gators will attempt to win their second straight crown and the 38th overall in school history.
The
tournament tees off on Monday (Nov. 1) and continues on Tuesday (Nov. 2) at the
Omni Tucson National golf resort, where the players will play the Sonoran
Course, which has more rugged and up-and-down terrain than the more traditional
Catalina.
Xavier has
sent its golfers down to the course in recent weeks to get a feel for their
surroundings.
The strength
of the team is its versatility. Almost any one of the golfers can get their
game going on any given day.
Three of
this year’s players finished in the top 12 a year ago on the Catalina –
sophomore (then freshman) Kate Hauptman (third), senior (then junior) Ivy Song
(sixth) and sophomore (then freshman) Jayden Jevnick (11th).
Also, keep
an eye on junior Annie Dawson and sophomore Lena Durette, the latter playing
well late in the season and playing in
her first state tournament. Sophomore Kalyn Doss will be available as an
alternate.
Xavier is
led by co-head coaches Sr. Lynn Winsor and Tui Selvaratnam and assistant Jane
Ladensack.
