The road to the cross-country medals stand continues on Tuesday (Nov. 2) when Xavier Prep competes in the Southwest Section state qualifying event at Cesar Chavez Park in Laveen.
Qualifiers
from the 10:15 a.m. race would then go to the Division I state meet on Nov. 13
at the Cave Creek Golf Course in north Phoenix. Xavier last won the state title
in 2018 and had three consecutive big seasons in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Xavier has
had perhaps the largest group of runners in its history this fall, numbering in
the upper 40s.
Among the
individual contenders for the Gators are seniors Hannah Wheeling, Tatum Goforth
and Catherine Alaimo. Top juniors are Reese Brown, Reyna Silva, Nora Hinkle and
Cassara Ryan. And among the sophomore standouts are Lily Beaver and Summer
Goodman.
Xavier’s
last individual state champion was Sarah Carter, in 2015.
