The Xavier Prep/Brophy Prep club mountain biking team finished a solid fifth overall among teams at the Arizona Cycling Association high school state championships on Sunday (Nov. 7) at the Wren Arena in the southern Arizona community of Fort Huachuca.
The top five
teams were No. 1 finisher Flagstaff High (North Division), No. 2 BASIS Prescott
(North), No. 3 Queen Creek Casteel (South Division), No. 4 Cave Creek Cactus
Shadows (North) and No. 5 Brophy/Xavier (South). Brophy/Xavier had battled
Casteel in the South all season.
Varsity
riders competed on the 4.1-mile course (4.1 per lap) and 3 laps for the JV.
Top Xavier
riders were Varsity’s Mary Hill, who finished 9th, and Aria Tseffos,
who finished 13th.
In the JV-1
race, Grace Morgan started but did not finish. In the JV-2 race, Rachel Reyes
was 25th and Bailey Finch was 30th.
Congratulations
to head coach Rich Perrott (both BCP and XCP) and his staff of assistants. It
was a great year that figures to only get better in 2022!
