Xavier Prep’s basketball team took a successful first step in the 6A Conference state tournament on Wednesday night (Feb. 16) with a 68-35 victory at home over Premier Region rival Chandler High.
Second-seeded
Xavier (18-5), which had defeated No. 15 Chandler on two previous occasions
this season, will move on to a quarterfinal game on Feb. 22, this one also at
home in the Activity Center.
The opponent
will be No. 10 Phoenix Pinnacle (22-8), which defeated No. 7 Phoenix Sandra Day
O’Connor 55-36 on Wednesday night at O’Connor. Xavier faced Pinnacle during the
regular season on Dec. 9 and came away with a 76-46 victory.
Xavier had
three players score in double figures against Chandler – all sophomores. Sarah
Miller led the way with 25 points, Dom Nesland had 16 and Maureen Ulrich had
12. Nesland and Ulrich also had six steals each as Xavier totaled 23 on the
night.
