Basketball, soccer finish strong in January

 Xavier Prep’s basketball and soccer teams finished out the month of January with victories on Monday night (Jan. 31).

After defeating Gilbert Perry 52-47 in a make-up game at Perry, the basketball team moved on to February with a 61-27 triumph, again over Perry on Tuesday (Feb. 1) in a regularly scheduled game. It was the final home game of the regular season for basketball.

The basketball team raised its record to 14-5 and the Gators head out of town to Tucson on Thursday night (Feb. 3) for a game at Tucson High. Tucson has one of the state’s best records at 18-5.

In the second game against Perry, sophomore guard-forward Sarah Miller scored 30 points, while sophomore point guard Dom Nesland had 12. Each player had two 3-point baskets.

Nesland also grabbed 6 rebounds, and junior forward Gabby Trbovic had 5 rebounds.

The XCP soccer team raised its record to 6-2-2 with a 2-0 victory at Chandler High on Monday night. The Gators travel to face Phoenix South Mountain on Thursday night.
