Streak is broken, lacrosse earns first win

The time had finally arrived for Xavier Prep’s club lacrosse team to earn its first victory of the season. The Gators walked away feeling much better about themselves on Friday night (March 18) after a 14-12 win over Tempe Corona del Sol at the Benedict Sports Complex in Tempe.

Juniors Keilani Hong and Gigi Riviere led the way for XCP. Hong scored seven goals and added an assist while Riviere scored three goals.

Xavier (1-4) had a significant lead in the last half of the first half, but Corona del Sol (2-2) came back with a scoring run that gave it plenty of momentum entering the second half.

The contest was more even in the second half, and Xavier managed to maintain its advantage.

So congratulations are in order for the players, co-head coaches Diana Oduho and Jen Nevatt and assistant Clay Zuba.

The Gators will try to make it two in a row on Monday night (March 21) at 7 when they face Phoenix Horizon at Xavier’s Petznick Field.
