DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Distance events in Scottsdale, pole vault in Cali.

 Xavier Prep track and field athletes competed in meets in Arizona and California over the weekend.

The local event was the Scottsdale Distance Classic at Scottsdale Saguaro, and the California event was in Arcadia.

The Xavier athletes will join each other on Wednesday (April 13) and Thursday (April 14) at the annual Fr. Olivier Multis at the Brophy Sports Campus. Freshmen and sophomores are due to compete on Thursday and the rest on Friday.
