Xavier Prep’s softball team has put together some big scoring outbursts of late, but it might deposit some of those opportunities in a run-scoring savings account, similar to a bank savings account.
If there
were such a softball account, the team could have a few extra runs on hand,
say, in the 6A Conference state tournament.
The Gators
had plenty of runs to spare on Monday (April 11), when they rolled up a
21-count in a 21-0, 5-inning victory over host Chandler High, a game that was
(mercifully) cut short due to the 10-run rule.
The Gators
had a 9-0 run entering the fifth, then opened the floodgates in the fifth with
12 runs.
Xavier
(15-4) slugged a pair of home runs (by seniors Bridget Donahey and Emma
Petersen), and senior pitcher Riley Flynn did not allow a hit, walking two and
striking out nine. Chandler dropped to 11-12-1.
The Gators
quickly hit the road on Tuesday (April 12) for a trip to play Tucson High.
Xavier was listed fourth in the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s power
points rankings and Tucson was right behind at No. 5.
