Loss lengthens softball trip to Tucson

Tuesday’s (April 12) long trip to Tucson was made even longer for softball players from Xavier Prep when they realized they had gone from a scoring feast on Monday (April 11) to a comparative famine in a game against host Tucson High.

Xavier, which had rocked host Chandler 21-0 in five innings, fell to Tucson 5-3. Xavier is now 15-5 while Tucson is 19-3-1.

The contest against Tucson was scoreless through three innings, but the Badgers scored a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Xavier scored once in the fifth and twice in the seventh.

Sophomore Lauren Putz was the leader on offense with two hits and two RBIs, including a home run. Pitcher Riley Flynn had a pair of hits for the Gators.

Flynn gave up five runs on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Xavier will play Chandler again on Tuesday (April 19), this time at Petznick Field.
