Xavier Prep’s softball team set itself up with what it hopes will be strong efforts in the final two games of the regular season, both at home, with a big 13-1 victory on the road at Gilbert Perry on Wednesday (April 20).
The game was
scoreless for the first three innings and then the Gators went on to finish
with a flourish, scoring five runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Xavier
(17-5) collected 16 hits against Perry (20-6), including three hits each from
Sofia Zielinski, Bridget Donahey and Elliot Smith. Zielinski and Donahey each
had three RBIs, and Donahey also had a home run. Lauren Putz also hit a homer
for Xavier.
Pitcher
Riley Flynn scattered six hits, walked two and struck out eight to earn the
victory. She also drove in two runs with a pair of hits.
Xavier will
have home games on Thursday (April 21) against Phoenix Sunnyslope and Monday
(April 25) against Chandler Hamilton. Xavier’s graduating senior players will
be honored on Senior Night against Sunnyslope. First pitch is 6 p.m.
