XCP's Kershner, Dyer top-seeded doubles team at state

While Arizona’s prep tennis teams are taking a break in the Division I state tournament, individual singles and doubles players will line up and compete at their version of state in their respective categories.

Singles and doubles matches begin on Friday (April 29) at the Scottsdale Ranch Park, and those advancing will play across town on Saturday (April 30) at the state’s traditional tennis destination, the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale.

Xavier features the top-seeded doubles team of senior Ryan Kershner and junior Danielle Dyer.

They will open play on Friday at 1:30 p.m. against unseeded Sarah Harris and Brooke Morton-Holmes of Peoria Liberty. The winner advances to the second round at 4:30 p.m.

Two individual singles players are entered for the Gators.

They are sophomore Megan Wheeling and Belani Soto. Wheeling opens play on Friday at noon against fifth-seeded Katherine Zawada-Das of Mesa Westwood. Soto will take on No. 6 seed Devyn Rodriguez of Chandler High. Early winners on Friday play again at 4:30 p.m.
